Background

Dr Lim Ing Ruen is an alumnus of the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania where she underwent surgical fellowship training in Rhinology and Advanced Sinus Surgery in 2003.

Dr Lim has more than 18 years of experience in the field of ear, nose and throat surgery and more than 20 years of clinical experience. She obtained her MBBS degree from National University of Singapore in 1995. Dr Lim then obtained her Masters in Otolaryngology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in UK in 2000. She obtained the Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) Award from the Ministry of Health to further subspecialize in the field of rhinology and advanced sinus surgery in 2003 at the University of Pennsylvania in USA. She gained full certification in the United States Foreign Medical Graduates Examinations and obtained a state licensure for the Rhinology Fellowship in 2003-2004 at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania where she trained with the pioneer of endoscopic sinus surgery. She was also appointed a clinical lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania and was involved in medical student teaching during her tenure.

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS

In 2005, she was made a fellow of the Academy of Medicine of Singapore under the Chapter of Otorhinolaryngologists of the College of Surgeons of Singapore. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery since 2002, a member of the American Rhinologic Society since 2005 and a member of Singapore Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology since 2009.

APPOINTMENTS

Upon her return to Singapore in 2004, Dr Lim started an Otorhinolaryngology Service and spearheaded a Rhinology Service taking care of complicated sinus cases in Alexandra Hospital. Her hospital appointments placed her on the Operating Room Committee of Alexandra Hospital and on the Hospital Planning Committee for the new Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. She has been serving on the Operating Room Committee of Mount Elizabeth Hospital since 2003 and on the Transplant Ethics Committee since 2015.

CLINICAL PRACTICE

She specializes in the treatment of all ear, nose and throat conditions and in addition, advanced surgical techniques including the use of balloon sinuplasty, advanced endoscopic sinus techniques and stereotactic computerized navigational surgery.
