Dr. Chin Chong Min is a Senior Consultant Urologist whose practice is at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Department of Surgery in the National University of Singapore and a Visiting Consultant to the Department of Urology at National University Hospital.
Dr. Chin graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1986. He obtained his fellowship in surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow (FRCSG) as well as Edinburgh (FRCSE) in 1991. He also obtained the Masters of Medicine (MMed) in Surgery that same year. Subsequently, he went on to specialize in Urology in 1994. His urological training included a year at Bristol Urological Institute in the United Kingdom from 1996 to 1997, where he served as a clinical specialist registrar majoring in oncology and urinary incontinence and urodynamics.
Besides general urology, Dr. Chin is renown for his surgical expertise in cancers of the kidney, bladder, testis and prostate, and is one of the few urologists in Singapore who perform Robotic Radical Prostatectomy and Laparoscopic procedures. His other subspecialty is in lower urinary tract dysfunction, including prostate disease, bladder disorders, urinary incontinence, urodynamics and erectile dysfunction. In the area of female urology, he was amongst the first urologists to perform the Tension-free Vaginal Tape (TVT), a minimally-invasive procedure for correcting women who suffer from stress incontinence. He is one of the designated preceptors to teach other doctors how to do TVT surgery. In the surgical management of urinary stones, his endourology skills include percutaneous nephrolithotripsy (PCNL) for large kidney stones, as well as his own technique of fragmenting ureter stones using the holmium laser.
In the area of academia, Dr. Chin has collaborated on many research projects, from clinical to pharmacological trials, epidemiological surveys and animal bladder experimentation.
He has presented his research and clinical work at many international meetings. His publications include 17 peer-reviewed papers, 5 book chapters, and author of the 2nd edition of Clinical Handbook on Management of Incontinence published by the Singapore Society for Continence. An active member of the Singapore Urological Association, his past positions were Honorary Treasurer, Chairman of the Incontinence Subcommittee and Urodynamics Club, and member of the Research Subcommittee. Over the years, he has organized not only scientific meetings but also public events such as Prostate Awareness Week, Continence Day, and Men’s Health.
Dr. Chin’s expertise in his field has resulted in invitations to lecture throughout Asia, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Cambodia.
