Dermatology refers to the branch of medicine that deals with the skin and related parts such as the hair, nails, sweat glands etc. A medical doctor who specializes in dermatology is a dermatologist. Venereology is a sub-specialty of dermatology that deals with sexually transmitted diseases.

Dermatologists are trained in all aspects of the diagnosis and subsequent surgical management of benign and malignant skin tumors. They are also able to assess options available in the treatment of skin cancer.
